My Funny Valentine Finalists Coming Soon!

Posted in Uncategorized

Dearest Friends of iggi!

I am so sorry I haven’t announced the finalists and set up the poll for my Valentines Contest just yet.  You see, I moved houses yesterday and in my semi-delusional state I actually thought I’d have oodles of time this weekend to review the contest entries and figure out the poll widget-thingy.  Alas, we don’t have our internet set up so I’m borrowing some to write this message.  I guess living out of boxes is not conducive to one’s efficiency so please forgive my tardiness.

But don’t fret!  I will be posting the finalists by the end of the day on Monday and I’ll be leaving the poll open until Friday so all the participants will have plenty of time to tell their friends and get votes!

In the meantime, please send some sanity-filled-happy-unpacking-vibes our way.  I’m doing fine but iggi’s a bit out of sorts without his usual writing fix.

…And an Iggi-licious New Year!

Posted in Uncategorized

Wow, it’s been a crazy year!  As I look back on it, I still can’t believe how much has happened.  Sometimes it doesn’t quite seem real, you know?  Here’s a snapshot of the past year here at iggi&gabi in writing (and other) milestones:

April:  iggi is born.
            iggi&gabi blog launches.

May:  Gabi finishes thesis and graduates from MFA.

September:  DIY MFA!!!

November:  Rough draft finished.

December:  Gabi and hubby close the deal on dream home!  That’s right, it became official on Monday and we’ll be moving sometime early in the new year.  We’re really excited because we’d been dreaming about this place for ages and now it’s finally come true.

As for 2011, I’ve already got a few things to look forward to with my writing, including some conferences in January, some new classes for me to teach (and maybe some for me to take too) and of course, our new home!

I also want to thank you all for being such awesome readers and such a great community!  I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to share this past year with you all.  The online writing community is amazing and supportive, I’m just thankful to be a part of it and to know I have you guys in my corner.  Seriously, regardless of what happens on my publishing journey, I will always feel like a writer because I am part of this community.  And in the end, that’s what really matters.

I wish you all health and happiness in 2011.  May your New Year be filled with all sorts of miracles.

DIY MFA Community

Posted in Uncategorized

Hello everyone!

Today we’ll be doing something a little bit different… Something interactive.  We’ve talked a bit in the past about creating a DIY MFA Online Community and there seemed to be a good bit of interest.  I started looking around online and checking out what options are available and started tinkering.

Originally I wanted to WOW you all by unveiling said community today but as with some projects, I sort of bit off more than I could chew and it was not to be.  Let’s just say my computer did not cooperate.  There was hissing and spitting involved and it wasn’t from me.

So instead of unveiling the community or posting about community, I’d like to open the floor to all of you.  Here are some things I’d like to know:

First:  Which type of DIY MFA community do you think would be best:
     a)  Yahoo Groups type of community?
     b)  A ning.com type of community
     c)  A discussion board
     d)  Another suggestion I might have missed?

Also, I need VOLUNTEERS!  Regardless of type of community, there’s no way I can keep up with iggi U here, keep teaching, finish writing my book and admin a community all by myself.  Anyone interested in helping me run this thing (like as a moderator or somesuch)?  I’m thinking a team of 2 people plus me would be a good start and we can always add more mods later if this thing takes flight.

Please share your thoughts below.  I can’t wait to hear what you all have to say and I can’t wait to start this DIY MFA community!
